Manchester United have revealed defender Phil Jones will be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks after being diagnosed with “mild thrombosis”.
Jones started all four of United's pre-season matches but was not involved in Saturday's Premier League win over Tottenham.
United confirmed after the season opener at Old Trafford that the England international was left out due to illness.
"Phil Jones, who was not involved in today's matchday squad, has mild thrombosis and will be out for a minimum of three weeks," a tweet from the official United Twitter account read.
Daley Blind and Chris Smalling played at centre-half in Jones' absence as United beat Spurs 1-0 thanks to Kyle Walker's own goal.
